The North Coast of California (also called the Redwood Empire or the Redwood Coast) is the region in Northern California that lies on the Pacific coast between the San Francisco Bay and the Oregon border.
Trinidad is a seaside village in Humboldt County, located on the Pacific Ocean 8 miles north of the Arcata-Eureka Airport (ACV) and 15 miles north of the college town of Arcata. The Trinidad area is one of the most spectacular, pristine segments of the California coast, and has been established as a California Coastal National Monument Gateway – offering the best shore-based opportunities to discover and view offshore rocks and islands and their inhabitants. The coastal Trinidad rocks support one of the most diverse seabird colonies in California with 12 species and more than 100,000 breeding individuals.

The site of many favorite childhood memories, Moonstone Grill (serving dinner 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday) has an unbeatable ocean-view location for fine dining. Reservations are highly recommended. Their sister site, Merryman’s Beach House, is great for special occasions with a private beach access.

The Lighthouse Grill
Their motto, “Buy Fresh, Buy Local” is very evident! Everything is fresh and homemade, including their bread, which is baked daily; their homemade ice cream, made from scratch in small batches with all added cookies, fudge, etc.; hand-cut fries; and homemade sodas. They even source fresh local fish. Nothing is processed or artificial.

Patricks Point Charters
Go sport fishing for rockfish, Dungeness crab & salmon with our friends at Patrick’s Point Charters! They run two trips a day, leaving the Trinidad Pier at 6:15 a.m. and again at 12:15 p.m. (both trips return after limits or 5 hours). Michelle (Captain John’s wife) does the booking for the fishing trips, so give her a call!

Trinidad Museum

Stopped here only for a night but what a great experience it was! Facilities were very clean and up to date. The whole resort is tucked under towering trees and even has a little creek running through it. Check in was smooth and pleasant. Would love to stop through again!

This is a gem in the Redwoods. It takes tents, motorhomes, whatever you have. We stayed in the cabin. It was gorgeous, well kept clean, it was well done. We will return more often. Especially in the rainy season when we can really enjoy the Redwoods. It was great!
